Developing your team is key to business growth and patient satisfaction, but it can be time consuming if you do all your training in-house. ABDO College offers a range of courses for every member of the practice team. Start with the optical assistant and senior optical assistant courses. These courses also give optical assistants the chance to enter year one of the fellowship dispensing diploma. This gold standard course in ophthalmic dispensing leads to the FBDO qualification and gives you a team member who can delight customers with their dispensing skills, problem solve and assist the whole team.

All the courses are offered via online learning, plus block release for the ophthalmic dispensing course. There are also further courses to allow your dispensing opticians to specialise and expand their skills.

Management and Leadership training from ABDO

Business skills are essential to help your business grow, but many optical managers find themselves entering their first management role without any formal business training. The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) has developed Management and Leadership training courses to help new and established managers develop their skills and fill gaps in their knowledge.

ABDO’s Management and Leadership training courses cover a wide range of topics essential to successful practice management. They are open to ABDO member and non-members, including the whole practice team. Each Level 5 course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) which also assesses and awards the qualifications.

If you take part in the course, you study online, allowing you to combine work and learning so you can apply new skills as you discover them. You also have tutor support. Whilst studying, you also get membership of CMI and access to the support and materials that they offer including the fantastic ManagementDirect.

The qualifications can be completed at either a diploma or certificate level.
