A new and exciting pathway to the FBDO Diploma

Developed by employers and granted permission to recruit by the GOC in July 2024, the Dispensing Optician Apprenticeship provides a new pathway for colleagues to develop their skills and knowledge in order to become DO’s. The Apprenticeship pathway not only gives learners the opportunity to “earn while they learn” but also provides substantial benefits to employers due to the significantly different method by which the training is funded.

The DO Apprenticeship is integrated with the FBDO qualification meaning apprentice learners complete exactly the same assessment and examination process as per those on the ‘traditional’ privately funded route.

ABDO College supports all employers at the commencement and throughout their journey – this begins with a short introductory meeting following the submission of the “Register your interest” form. This will introduce the key concepts and differences, as well as allowing the opportunity for specific questions or circumstances to be discussed.
