Alcon, the global leader in eye care and a division of Novartis, is helping newly qualified optometrists learn and develop by continuing to run its education scheme throughout the year. The popular Alcon Scholarship programme, along with its other educational programmes and offerings, provide eye care professionals with further opportunities to develop their skills in the field. The next intake’s application window will be open between July and August this year, welcoming optometrists who have been qualified for between two to five years to apply. Those interested can register online and complete an assessment to be considered for the intake. The programme is now also open to international applicants, with last year’s intake including representatives selected by Alcon’s sister Professional Affairs teams from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands and Finland

As part of its responsibility to support eye care practitioners and their support teams, the Alcon Scholarship is an innovative programme of education for newly qualified optometrists designed to help them grow personally, clinically, professionally and commercially. The two-year programme comprises of five courses, each lasting two days, with courses one to four taking place at the Alcon Academy in Surrey and course five at one of Alcon’s state-of-the-art European facilities.

The Alcon Scholarship is only one example of the company’s commitment to providing education opportunities for the sector. At Optrafair on 15th April, the company also partnered with the BCLA to run three CET peer discussion sessions covering topics such as presbyopia & contact lenses and how to handle lenses with care during those trickier contact lens situations.

Jonathon Bench, Head of Professional Affairs at Alcon, comments: “Educating future and existing optometrists is a key priority for Alcon. Last year alone we trained over 10,000 industry personnel in all aspects of contact lens use and patient care and this year is no different. With over 87 training courses, round tables and conference seminars already scheduled to take place, as well as sessions operated at practice level to support practitioners and their teams, our broad suite of educational opportunities is guaranteed to help eye care professionals develop.”
